The Sound of Rain

The same rain can feel different depending on how you notice it.

2 min readbeanie & butarro

Beanie watches the rain while Butarro helps her hear how every surface answers it differently.

Butarro near a rain window with amber ripples.

scene 1

Rain began while they were inside.

Beanie watched it move down the window and asked when it would stop.

scene 2

Butarro asked her to listen first.

The rain sounded different on the window, the leaves, the roof, the small metal cup, and Beanie's ears when she leaned too close outside.

right now, beanie thinks the rain sounds most like: window hush.

scene 3

Beanie started naming the sounds.

One was a hush. One was a little drum. One was definitely a shiny tapping sound.

scene 4

At the end, they described the same rain differently.

“What does the rain look like?” “What does it sound like to you?”

one small story is enough to tell you a little more about how they move through the world together.
